Qingdao Port deepens ties with BRI countries SPG 2023-07-25 13:17

After nearly 50 days of sailing, the vessel M/V Saga Faith, loaded with paper pulp produced at UPM's new paper pulp plant in Uruguay, finally arrived at Qingdao Port of Shandong Port Group (SPG) on July 15.

UPM's new plant was put into operation in April this year and has adopted the most advanced technologies to minimize its environmental impact. It has helped UPM increase its capacity by more than 50 percent, making Uruguay the world's second-largest source of bleached eucalyptus pulp.

Since this year, Qingdao Port has fostered a new pattern of development and deepened its ties with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It has reached cooperative agreements with many enterprises producing paper pulp, including UPM, a Finnish pulp, paper, and timber manufacturer.
