East China port sees record-high export volume of complete vehicles CCTV 2023-07-21 09:24

Export volume of complete vehicles at Taicang Port in east China's Jiangsu Province hit a record high of 170,000 units in the first half of this year as driven by the country's booming automobile industry, according to latest data released by the port.

Meanwhile, the port has constantly optimizing the transportation methods and orchestrating different ship types to meet surging export demand and fill in the unmet transportation capacity.

The very example is a cargo ship docked at the Taicang Port loaded with 2,797 new energy vehicles.

The ship, which would depart from Taicang to South America, was modified accordingly as it is equipped with an infrared temperature imaging device and a "one-to-one" real-time temperature monitoring system for new energy vehicles.

Once the device detects an overhigh temperature, the spraying device will be turned on to cool down.

In addition, in order to meet the insufficient capacity of traditional ro-ro ships to transport vehicles, Taicang Port and transportation companies have also developed custom-made container frames to load cars to tap full capacity of the container ships.

According to statistics, from January to June this year, 170,000 complete vehicles had been transported from Taicang Port, a volume exceeding that of the whole last year. Among them, new energy vehicles accounted for more than a half of the total.

"We will make every effort to build the largest auto export base along the Yangtze River and a distribution center for auto parts to provide greater support for our Chinese auto companies to go to the world stage," said Fang Jian, director of Development Service Bureau of Taicang Port Management Committee.
