In 2017, the global economy has entered into the relatively strong recovery, and the global trade environment has improved. The international container market situation has get better compared to the downturn in 2016,and overall global container throughput growth has picked up from last year. Among them, the growth of the port of Ningbo - Zhoushan (China), Rotterdam (Europe), and Busan (South Korea) are strong, but some ports such as Klang (southeast Asia) and kaohsiung (Taiwan)’s expansion have shown negative growth.
Due to the difference between the economy entities to which every port belongs,the world's all major container ports have different development potential.This paper focuses on the analysis of several indicators of the world's 100 container ports, ranking the most promising container ports in the world.
Shanghai international shipping research center (SISI) obtained the ranking of the world’s most promising container ports in 2017 by calculation on the basis of the six indicators which are “the growth rate of container throughput”,”the GDP growth rate of the area of the ports”,”the investment amount attracting by port”,”numbers of new ship routes”,"the natural conditions of the port(water depth, location)" and "government behavior" ,striving to restore the real value and development potential of ports for the exchange of the industry.The ranking results are as shown in the table.
