China's first river-ocean-going ship completes first voyage xinde marine news 2018-04-11 14:40

China's first river-ocean-going cargo ship finished its maiden voyage on Tuesday in Maanshan City, east China's Anhui Province.

Departing from Ningbo City in east China's Zhejiang Province on April 5, the ship, built under original Chinese standards, arrived at a port in Maanshan at around 10:30 with 2,000 tons of iron ores.

The voyage went through China's Yangtze River and the East China Sea. And such a river-ocean combined voyage used to require trans-shipments from river to ocean or ocean to river, but with a ship able to sail in both river and ocean, a single ship can make the entire voyage, thus greatly improving efficiency.

During the voyage, the ship passed the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge which is only 24 meters above the river, making it the ocean-going ship with the biggest load capacity that had ever passed the bridge.

According to the manufacturer, the ship is light and fast and the journey from Ningbo to Maanshan can be reduced to 36 hours, if the ship sails at its maximum speed.
