Ningbo Zhoushan port posts increased rail coal arrivals sxcoal 2020-11-23 11:35

Ningbo Zhoushan port has received 1.0 million tonnes of coal sent from railways instead of roadway from the beginning of this year to November 19, surging 276.7% from the year-ago level.

"This is also the first time that Zhoushan port's coal railing volume has exceeded 1 million tonnes; its a great progress in adjusting cargo transportation structure and contributing to the blue sky campaign," said a official of Ningbo Port Railway Co., Ltd..

Compared with road, railway transportation has the advantages of large scale, low energy consumption and low pollution. China has previously stated to replace bulk cargo transportation by roadway with railways, especially in the Yangtze River Delta region.

In May 2019, the first coal train was opened from Zhoushan port to Zhenhai port district. So far, coal trains have also opened to Gaobu and Qianqing, demonstrating the green transport mode in Hangzhou, Xiaoshan and Shaoxing areas and likely to extend to potential coal customers in western Zhejiang and Jiangxi.
