Caofeidian, one leading port in northern China's Tangshan city, has been ramping up its coal throughput capacity, with latest progress embodied in the trial operation of Huadian coal terminal.

Since the first discharge of heavy-haul trains on March 16 this year, the new terminal has handled over 2 million tonnes of coal, according to Tangshang city government.

There are two 100,000-tonne, two 70,000-tonne and one 50,000-tonne level coal berths at the terminal. Total coal storage capacity of the terminal is designed at 3.745 million tonnes.

As one unloading port for coal from Mengji railway starting Ordos of Inner Mongolia, Caofeidian in Hebei province will see coal handling capacity increase to 250 million tonnes by 2021.
