Cargo throughput at Taicang port sees double-digit rise in xinde marine news 2019-02-25 15:22

The cargo throughput of Taicang port in Jiangsu province saw double-digit growth in the first month of 2019, local media reported on Feb 21.

Some 21.14 million tons of cargo were delivered in the same period at the port, a year-on-year increase of 13.7 percent.

The container throughput soared by 28.8 percent year-on-year to 464,000 and the throughput of foreign trade cargo surged 17.8 percent to 7.15 million tons.

All the achievements Taicang port made in early 2019 can be attributed to its high quality development last year.

In 2018 the port launched another two Southeast Asian routes and increased its near-sea routes to 25, covering 23 ports in countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road.

It also increased its domestic trading routes to 52, reaching 21 ports in China. As of the end of 2018 the port had operated 200 different routes.

Last year, the port handled more than five million containers, a record high, moving it to first place in Jiangsu and 10th position in China.
