Hong Kong Secretary for Transport and Logistics gains world stage to share local progress in logistics and marine

Hong Kong’s Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Lam Sai-hung, continued his visit to Beijing yesterday (September 26) to attend the Global Sustainable Transport Forum (2023), where he shared with other participants Hong Kong’s development in smart mobility and smart logistics.

On the maritime and logistics front, Mr Lam said the HKSAR Government has been actively promoting the development of high-end, high value-added and smart logistics, with a view to transforming Hong Kong into a sustainable international smart logistics hub.

“We have launched the HKIA Cargo Data Platform, which uses technologies such as blockchain and cloud computing to digitise, synchronise and standardise documents and workflows. This enables the air cargo industry to communicate, share data and track shipment status on the same platform, thereby helping to enhance the efficiency of air cargo handling in Hong Kong,” he said.

He added that the HKSAR Government is making every effort to build a Smart Port. By establishing a digital port community system to facilitate information flow among different stakeholders in the maritime, port and logistics industries, the port will enter a new era. Various measures of the Government can help Hong Kong become a regional distribution centre, develop e-commerce and high value-added cargo and logistics businesses.
