Ningbo Containerized Freight Index Weekly Commentary (11.13-11.19)

Near-ocean route market was hot, composite index stopped falling and rebounded
 
Ningbo Containerized Freight Index: In the week ending Nov-19, Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) issued by Ningbo Shipping Exchange (NBSE) quotes 3964.2 points, slightly up by 0.6% against last week. Meanwhile, nine of the selected twenty-one routes maintain an upward trend while other twelve have fallen. In addition, according to the freight indices of the primary ports along the Maritime Silk Road, fifteen ports appear a constant rising tendency while other two are declining.

Europe and Mediterranean routes: There was a certain surplus of space on the Europe and Mediterranean   routes, and the carriers have strengthened their marketing efforts, and the spot freight rates have continued to fall slightly. This week, freight index in the route from Ningbo-Europe quotes 5440.0 points, down by 1.2% from one week ago. Freight indices in the routes from Ningbo to East Mediterranean and West Mediterranean quote 4220.4 points and 5263.5 points, reducing by 0.4% and having a decrease of 0.4% against last week respectively.

North America route: The transportation demand rebounded slightly, and the shipping capacity of the routes was still limited, which promoted a slight increase in market freight rates. This week, freight indices in the routes from Ningbo to East America and West America quote 3217.9 points and 4435.7 points, increasing by 1.8% and climbing by 3.1% from one week ago respectively.

Mideast route: The carriers adjusted the flight schedule, and this week's inventory capacity was slightly reduced, and the spot freight rates rebounded slightly. This week, freight index in the route from Ningbo-Mideast quotes 3205.4 points, having a week-on-week increase of 2.3% compared with last week.

Thailand& Vietnam route: Transportation demand remained high, and some empty shifts have resulted in insufficient supply of transportation capacity, and the shortage of space has pushed up freight rates sharply. This week, freight index in the route from Ningbo to Thailand& Vietnam route quotes 2562.6 points, up by 33.0% against last week.
