The shipyard in Zhoushan won 3 high-spec bulk carriers

On June 25, Wisdom Marine issued an announcement stating that the company's board of directors approved the purchase of three 82,400DWT high-spec bulk carriers from Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding with a unit price of no more than 34 million U.S. dollars. The total amount is not more than 102 million U.S. dollars.

The ships are expected to be delivered in 2023 and 2024. Although Wisdom Marine did not disclose the specific ship types and other information of the above three bulk carriers in the announcement, the company plans to phase out 20 old ships this year and negotiate the construction of 10 third-generation energy-saving and environmentally-friendly ships.

Wisdom Marine plans to sell mainly bulk carriers of about 10,000DWT, while the new ships include 7 Handymax bulk carriers and 3 Kamsarmax bulk carriers. These 10 ships will all use the third-generation energy-saving main engine, which can increase the energy-saving effect by 30%.

It is worth noting that the recent meeting of IMO passed relevant regulations. From January 2023, EEXI and CII will take effect. Wisdom Marine expects that after the implementation of the new regulations, energy-saving ships will be more "hot demand", and old ships will face mandatory speed reduction or even elimination. The company estimates that more than 80% of the ships in the global market will be affected. A proportion of the energy-saving fleet will expand its competitive advantage in the future.

At present, Wisdom Marine Group has a total of 137 ships with an average age of about 7.3 years, of which energy-saving and environmentally-friendly ships account for about 70%.
