Wan Hai spent NT$10 billion to buy second-hand ships!

The global container ship market is booming. Wan Hai Lines has not only increased its entry into the market this year, but also authorized the management team to evaluate the purchase of several second-hand ships at 360 million US dollars (about 10.26 billion Taiwan dollars).

Global container ships have not performed well in the past three years. The board of directors of Wan Hai recently announced that it will spend US$1.09 billion (about NT$3.148 billion) to order 37,000 containers.

Yesterday, the board of directors also announced that it authorized Wan Hai Lines (Singapore), a subsidiary of the company, to carry out the ship procurement case, mainly to evaluate the second-hand ships, and to purchase several 1,800TEU (20 ft container ships) and 8,500TEU second-hand full container ships for operation with a total value of not more than 360 million US dollars.

This highlights that Wan Hai’s current customer demand should be very strong. The demand for ships is large. Buying second-hand ships can meet the immediate market demand in the short term, and adjust the proportion of its own ships in accordance with the market demand in the long term.
