China's first pure electric tug began construction


On the morning of October 22nd, the first pure electric tug in China started construction in Lianyungang Hongyun Industrial.

The 4000HP pure electric tug is designed by the 708 Institute of China State Shipbuilding Group, with a total length of 36 meters, a width of 10 meters, a depth of 4.5 meters, a design draft of 3.5 meters, and a speed of 13 knots.

The total power is designed at 5,000 kilowatt-hours and can reach 4,000 horsepower for conventional tug service. Mainly used in Lianyungang waters to assist large ships to dock, can be jacked, towed and backtowed operations.

The ship is built by Lianyungang Hongyun Industrial Co., LTD., a subsidiary of Lianyungang Port Group, the ship is the sixth large-horsepower tug independently built by Lianyungang Port in the past three years and the first pure electric tug in China.

The electric tug is expected to be completed and put into use in the first half of 2021, and is mainly used for berthing assistance in Lianyungang main port area.
