OHT and CMHI signed 2+2 shipbuilding agreement

Norway's OHT has signed a shipbuilding agreement with China Merchants Heavy Industries (CMHI) for 2+2 wind power installation ships.

OHT signs the agreement through VIND Offshore Installation AS, a wholly-owned subsidiary.

The new ship will use GustoMSC jackup design and plans to use a new generation of wind turbines, with telescopic boom cranes capable of handling a maximum of 2,500 tons and a maximum lift height of about 165 meters.

The cranes are capable of installing wind turbines under water up to 65 metres deep.

OHT said the new ship will have a battery hybrid solution as well as advanced electrical control systems. Carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by 20% compared with similar ships. The new ships also set the stage for future hydrogen fuel cell installations.

The first ship will be delivered in early 2023. The delivery date for the second vessel has not yet been set.
