Cargo boat carrying 10 persons rescued in east China

A total of 10 Myanmar crew members were rescued from a cargo ship that started to overturn in east China's Zhangzhou sea area on Sunday.

Shortly after 21:00 on Sunday, the Sea Rescue Bureau in Zhangzhou City, east China's Fujian Province, received a report and immediately assigned law-enforcement ships to the waters and called on nearby ships to rescue the trapped crew members.

At 21:20, a Hong Kong cargo ship answered the call and arrived at the accident site. After over one-hour rescue, all the 10 crew members were evacuated. At 03:00 on Monday, all rescued crew members were evacuated to shore by law-enforcement ships.

All crew members are in good physical condition.

According to the rescuers, the ship carried nearly 20 tons of light oil and has anchored now. The oil tank valve of the cargo ship has been closed, and the subsequent safe disposal measures of the ship are being formulated.

"The ship is still in a tilting state. Next, our center will closely monitor the ship. We have worked with the Zhangzhou Traffic Control Center to broadcast navigation warnings to remind passing ships to keep clear of the ship, avoiding secondary disasters," said Zhou Wenqing, deputy director general of the Maritime Safety Administration of Zhangzhou.
