T.S. Lines Ltd. is once again strengthening its strategic partnership with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, signing contracts for four 5,300 TEU “Swan Series” containerships, part of a broader plan that could see up to 10 newbuildings materialize.
These new vessels are part of the shipyard’s proprietary “SWAN” class, known for their exceptional fuel efficiency, green design, and readiness for clean fuel retrofitting. With fully independent intellectual property rights and compliance with IMO 2030/2050 emission targets, the SWAN series has become a benchmark for the mid-size containership market.
The cooperation between T.S. Lines and Huangpu Wenchong dates back to 2019, and has now expanded to a total of 14 vessels.
According to earlier reports, the full 10-ship order is valued at USD 625 million, with five firm orders and five options.
First deliveries are expected in Q2 2028, showcasing T.S. Lines’ prudent yet ambitious fleet strategy amid market uncertainty.
In addition to Huangpu Wenchong, T.S. Lines also has vessels under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, including three 14,000 TEU methanol-ready and two 7,000 TEU vessels, all scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2028.
As the company transitions from a regional carrier to a global player—now ranked among the world’s top 20 liner operators—it continues to optimize its fleet structure and expand its reach, targeting emerging growth markets like South America, the Middle East, and South Asia.
This latest move reflects both T.S. Lines’ confidence in the mid-size segment and China’s rising competitiveness in green containership design and construction.
