German shipowner Elbdeich Reederei has placed an order for two 5,100 TEU containerships at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, marking a significant step forward for the Chinese shipbuilder's independently developed ‘Honghu Series’ mid-size containership platform.
The Honghu 5100 is Huangpu Wenchong’s first in-house design in the mid-size segment and showcases a range of advanced features.
This deal adds to a growing partnership between ELBDEICH and Huangpu Wenchong. Since 2023, the two parties have signed multiple orders, including 1,250 TEU methanol dual-fuel ships and 1,900 TEU Honghu series vessels, reflecting a high level of trust and technical synergy.
With this contract, Huangpu Wenchong continues to strengthen its position in the mid-size containership segment, underpinned by a maturing portfolio of self-developed designs aimed at energy efficiency, regulatory compliance, and operational flexibility across global trades.
