On June 3, SunRui Environmental, a leading force in maritime environmental technologies, officially unveiled its Wind-assisted Propulsion System（WAPS）-Rotor Sail System at Nor-Shipping 2025 in Oslo — one of the world’s premier maritime exhibitions.
The launch ceremony drew nearly 100 industry guests, including shipowners, classification societies, and technology leaders. Among them, Deputy Director of the 725 Institute and Board Member of SunRui Environmental.
Rotor sail propulsion is increasingly recognized as a highly promising solution for carbon reduction in shipping. To meet this opportunity, SunRui has accelerated its efforts in wind-assisted propulsion by overcoming multiple technical barriers, including lightweight composite cylinder design, high-efficiency transmission, intelligent control, and energy optimization.
At the event, SunRui received China’s first AIP certificate for a marine rotor sail system, presented by BV Group Vice President and BV China Vice President — a landmark moment that signals strong validation from the classification industry.
SunRui’s team also shared a comprehensive overview of its decarbonization strategy for maritime applications. The presentation detailed the rotor sail system’s architecture, key technologies, installation guidelines, and operational parameters, while also addressing delivery cycles, system maintenance, and return on investment.
In recent years, SunRui has launched a suite of green shipping solutions including LNG, methanol, and ammonia fuel supply systems, as well as onboard carbon capture. The successful development and release of the rotor sail system represents another breakthrough in its mission to support the shipping industry’s low-carbon transition.
