Comments from Alexander Buchmann, Managing Director of Hanseaticsoft

Recently, Xinde Marine News made an interview with Alexander Buchmann, Managing Director of Hanseaticsoft about their following plans in Asia as well as in China.

1. Brief introduction of company’s plans for growth in Asia, why the region is so important to Hanseaticsoft?
Alexander Buchmann, Managing Director of Hanseaticsoft says, “Our starting point was North Europe and the Hamburg shipping cluster, but for some years now we've experienced demand from around the world, and especially from Asia. As a result, we opened our first office outside Germany in Singapore in July 2018. We saw that there was not only a great interest in modern technology but also the will to change processes and digitalise tasks in order to stay competitive.

“Some companies in other regions, such as Europe are still reluctant to change and might take significantly longer to commit to the use of innovative technology instead of sticking to how they have handled processes in the past. This is also highlighted by some simple numbers: Last year, we added 19 new shipping companies to our global client base, including eight Asian companies in Singapore, Philippines, India and China.

“In response to customer demand we will continue expanding into Asia, in countries including China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.”

2. What you can offer and how you thinks technology will shape the Asian shipping market this year?
We offer a cloud-based fleet management system called Cloud Fleet Manager. The software offers a technology platform for companies to manage their entire fleet and tasks and for all information to be centralised, processed and accessed in real time using apps and mobile devices. Since the system is cloud- and web-based, it can be used regardless of users’location. The only thing needed is an internet connection. As all information is held on a central platform, the exchange of information and process management is much easier and less time consuming.

There are several types of technology such as IoT, autonomous vessels and blockchain that will impact the maritime industry over the next years, however one that is already changing the ways in which we work is the cloud.

I think cloud technology will continue to have a significant impact on the way shipping companies, not only in Asia but globally, operate – improving the ease of data access, ensuring greater availability of information regardless of time or location and reducing data silos and excess work through its automation. Additionally, the cloud makes it much easier for companies to integrate their existing systems and processes.

3. Do you have any plans in Chinese market this year?
With China as one of the biggest players in the maritime industry, we will further increase our activity in this region and travel the country to meet with companies interested in innovating and future-proofing their business. We look forward to presenting the many benefits that a cloud-based solution has to offer, enabling a leaner, more efficient and technologically advanced way of working.
