Milestone Achieved: Jiangxi Xinjiangzhou Shipyard Delivers Its First High-End Stainless Steel Chemical Tanker
On April 30, Jiangxi Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. successfully delivered the “Henghui 102” – a 3,490 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker – in Zhoushan, China. The vessel is classified as an IMO II chemical tanker and was built to CCS standards.
This delivery marks the shipyard’s first high-end chemical tanker since its restructuring, signifying its entry into the specialized liquid cargo vessel segment. The tanker features innovative construction techniques, including the integration of stainless steel cargo tank sections with deck modules – a first for the yard – tailored to handle demanding chemicals like phenol and other corrosive cargoes.
Automated welding technologies were extensively applied throughout the flat panel structure, achieving a 30% reduction in material use and an 80% improvement in efficiency. The vessel also sets a benchmark for intelligent shipbuilding at Xinjiangzhou, with performance tests showing better-than-designed speed and fuel efficiency.
Designed with sloped cargo tanks and a streamlined bulbous bow, the vessel is capable of sailing in international (A1+A2+A3) waters, as well as China's near-sea zones and inland waterways such as the Yangtze River.
Backed by shareholders YANGZIJIANG FINANCIAL HOLDING LTD. and Qinshi Group, Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding is pursuing a strategy of "specialized and refined" shipbuilding. With a focus on small to mid-size multipurpose and high-spec vessels, the company aims to become a leading high-value shipbuilding base in inland China.
