MSC orders 27 container ships at three Chinese shipyards xinde marine news Sarah Yu 2021-03-29 10:16

MSC has approached three Chinese shipyards to order up to 27 15,500 TEU container ships at a cost of about $120 million per vessel, with a total value of more than $3.2 billion.
 
According to the report, MSC has signed letters of intent with Guangzhou Shipyard International and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation for 10 vessels each, and is in talks with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) for another seven vessels.
 
MSC ordered 147 container ships between October last year and March 5 this year, nearly four times the number ordered in the first nine months of last year, according to Clarkson Research.
 
According to Alphaliner, the current MSC container ship capacity is 3.886 million TEU, a total of 585 ships, up 3.19% from a year ago and accounting for about 16% of the global container capacity.
