LNG filling station opens for business in Tibet xinhua 2020-08-07 10:15

A liquefied natural gas (LNG) filling station opened for business on Monday in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, the first facility in the region to provide LNG refuelling services for vehicles.

The station, located in the economic development zone of Lhasa, can provide 50,000 cubic meters of LNG daily, which is sufficient to fuel over 200 heavy trucks, said Wang Wei, deputy general manager of the LNG sales Qinghai branch of the China National Petroleum Corporation.

According to Wang, LNG availability in the region started in October 2011, when the first LNG station opened in Lhasa, primarily for local winter heating.

All the gas used in Lhasa comes from an LNG plant in Golmud, Qinghai Province, with tankers carrying some 300,000 cubic meters of LNG every day in winter through high-altitude areas to Lhasa, he said.
