Chinese companies will get Shell LNG-powered VLCC orders xinde marine news Sarah Yu 2020-06-22 16:42

In partnership with domestic financial leasing companies, Chinese state-owned shipping companies are expected to beat South Korea to win orders for up to eight LNG powered VLCC orders from Shell.

Shell is negotiating with Minsheng Financial Leasing, ICBC Leasing and Bank of Communications Financial Leasing to charter 4 LNG VLCCs. Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and DSIC are expected to have the opportunity to obtain orders.

Shell has also attracted Frontline, Euronav, AET, Taskos Group and Capital Maritime & Trading, and other shipping companies.

This will be the first time Shell has chosen to cooperate with a Chinese agency to order and build LNG - powered vessels in China, following the 12 LNG - powered LR2 vessels built earlier this year.
