Construction of cross-harbor tunnel starts in Dalian,China xinde marine news 2020-04-13 11:27

Workers started the construction of the Dalian Bay Cross-harbor Tunnel in the water area of Dalian City in northeast China's Liaoning Province on Saturday, with the seabed leveling test officially operated.

According to the deputy general manager of the project, the leveling test was originally scheduled for March, but it was postponed to April due to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The main line of the tunnel project is to lay 18 large tubes under the water, 5.1 km long, with 13 of them to lay on the seabed bedrock and five on seabed layers of clay.

As the "Jinping No.1" ship, an offshore platform ship, was slowly towed into the Dalian Bay by three tugboats, the relevant department was ready with a plan in advance to ensure its operation as it requires good water environment.

"We coordinated with the Dalian Vessel Traffic Service Center to control the traffic in the construction area and surrounding water area and organize the construction work to ensure a clean and safe construction area. We also dispatched more maritime patrol vessels and security vessels during the important construction nodes and significant construction stages, in a bid to fully guard and protect the sites," said Li Shiyi, director of Command Center of Dalian Maritime Safety Administration.

The seabed leveling test will last 27 days, according to the plan. The 5.1-km-long tunnel is the first large immersed tube tunnel in north China's waters and will provide a north-south transportation artery to ease increasing traffic jams in the city.
