NisshinKaiun recently decided to change its six chemical tankers built in Chinese shipyards to LNG dual fuel power, including two 19900 DWT and four 33000 DWT chemical tankers, which are scheduled to be delivered around 2022.

According to Clarkson's data, at present, there are 8 chemical tankers under construction in NisshinKaiun. Apart from 2 19700 DWT chemical tankers in Japan's shipyards, the remaining 6 are all built by Nantong Xiangyu Marine Equipment Limited.

The six chemical tankers will be equipped with LNG fuel supply system, each carrying two 300 cubic meter tanks.

This is the first time that a professional shipowner company in Japan has equipped a LNG powered ocean going ship (excluding LNG ships).

Nantong Xiangyu is the main cooperative shipyard of NisshinKaiun in China. At present, as many as 28 of Nantong Xiangyu's hand-held orders come from NisshinKaiun, including ultramax bulk carrier and stainless steel chemical carrier. Not long ago, NisshinKaiun also ordered two additional 63500 DWT ultramax bulk carriers in Nantong Xiangyu, which are scheduled to be delivered in June 2021.
