China-led consortium scores Cyprus LNG terminal job xinde marine news 2020-03-10 09:24

A multinational consortium led by the state-owned China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering, a unit of CNPC, has been awarded a contract for the construction of an LNG terminal at Vassiliko Port in Cyprus.

The contract has been awarded at the end of February according to the document released by the EU’s tenders service.

Following the completion of a feasibility study in 2016, the Government of Cyprus (GoC) decided to proceed with the development of a facility for the import, storage and regasification of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at a location in Vasilikos Bay, near Lemesos.

The consortium comprises CPP, Metron Energy Applications, Wilhelmsen Ship Management and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group.

Under the contract valued at €500 million ($571.7 million), the consortium has been tasked with the procurement of floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), of at least 125 000 cubic meters storage capacity, to unload LNG from LNG carriers ranging in size from 120 000 cubic meters to 217 000 cubic meters.

It will also build the offshore infrastructure for the permanent berthing of the FSRU and onshore natural gas infrastructure and related construction components for gas delivery to the Vasilikos power station and potentially other gas consumers.

Under the tender document, the government of Cyprus requires the completion of the new LNG import terminal by November 30, 2020.
