Dear Colleague,
Ahead of the upcoming Ukraine Gas Investment Congress taking place in Kyiv from 20-22 October, read our exclusive interview with Yuriy Vitrenko, CEO of Naftogaz and find out more about opportunities to partner in Ukraine’s upcoming gas projects.
Ukraine Gas Investment Congress: In your new role as CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine, what are your immediate main priorities for the company in the coming 6 months?
Yuriy Vitrenko: In the coming 6 months, our main priority is to ensure uninterruptable gas supplies or basically security of supply during the upcoming heating season. And it’s a challenge, especially given that we don’t know what will happen to Nord Stream 2. We see some other challenges in the electricity sector too. So, the security of supply is our first priority.
The second priority would be to ensure that the corporate governance reform is back on track. We have an open, competitive procedure to select the new supervisory board of Naftogaz. It’s essential to gain the trust of all the stakeholders, including Ukrainian people. And then finally, we will bring the operations back on track in terms of increasing efficiency, for example, in gas production because unfortunately due to the last couple of years, we can see decreasing gas production. It’s the opposite of the national agenda because we believe that Ukraine has a potential that needs to be realised. That’s why we are, on the one hand attracting foreign investors and international companies to come to Ukraine and to invest in gas production jointly with us, or on their own. Of course, as Naftogaz, we are here to support the development of the upstream sector of Ukraine.
