German shipowner ordered four 7100TEU container ships at Dalian Shipyard

German shipowner ALMH (Asiatic Lloyd) signed with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry for a new construction project of 2+2 4 ammonia-powered 7100TEU container ships.

These ships are expected to adopt an ultra-compact wide-beam design, arranged in 19 rows, and have a length of 272.5 m.

Other shipowners have also been developing their own ammonia-powered preparation plans. Belgian tanker giant Euronav signed a LNG-powered VLCC order with Hyundai Samho of South Korea, with a mark that can be used for ammonia.

Classification societies have been seeking guidance on ammonia. BV, a French company, published a labeling method for ammonia fuel. The space and structural components targeted by the symbol will house future ammonia fuel tanks, fuel treatment equipment and ammonia vapor treatment units. It also covers specific requirements for converting engines and boilers from using fuel oil, LNG or a variety of fuels to ammonia.
