Tianjin terminals to ban piled containers of domestic coal

Tianjin terminals would ban pile-ups of containers loaded with domestic trade coal and require immediate shipment after arrival to secure safety amid high temperatures, according to a notice issued by Tianjin Orient Container Terminals Co., Ltd on June 27.

To effectively reduce environmental pollution caused by heavy-duty trucks in coal transportation, Tianjin port stopped accepting any coal delivered by truck on May 1, 2017.

The forbiddance of truck delivery of coal to the port came as air pollutions in Tianjin became a pressing problem. Before this ban, Tianjin port received nearly 60 million tonnes of truck-carried coal per annum, rendering it an important port for temporary storage of coal transported from northern coal-rich provinces to the south of China, data showed.

In order to solve the problems of transportation of coal and iron ore in Tianjin port, Tianjin Port Group has worked out series of plans to reinforce the role of railway transportation and to further improve logistics and financial services.
