1.Freight Investor Services is behind the launch of the Baltic Exchange Panamax P8 grains route.The new route offers shipowners and grains market players on the Brazil-China soyabeans route a complementary method of hedging to the existing Panamax P2A route.P8 is a panamax vessel freight route from Santos,Brazil to Qingdao,China,primarily used to carry soybeans for processing in China.
 
2.Cosco Shipping Bulk has signed an agreement with China Coal Energy for domestic coal transportation.Under the agreement, Cosco Shipping Bulk will transport coal from China Coal Energy’s terminal in Tangshan to Jiangsu Guoxin Yangzhou Power Station.
 
3.Norway’s Island Drilling has been awarded a contract by CNOOC Petroleum Europe to drill at the Howick prospect, west of Shetland.
 
4.Financially troubled ship design and shipbuilding company Shanghai Bestway Marine & Energy Technology has announced that Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute (SMERI), a unit of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), has applied with a court in Shanghai to restructure the company.
 
5.Hong Kong-based Gulf Oil Marine, a prominent marine lubes supplier, has confirmed that chief executive, Keith Mullin will retire shortly. David Price, until recently, managing director of the ship management division of Hong Kong’s Wallem Group, is set to replace Mr Mullin in May.
 
6.Spot rates from China to North Europe fell 4.2 per cent on Friday from the previous week to US$684 per TEU, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI).
