China Shipping bulletins on Jan 31,2019


1.The Chinese Ministry launched a maritime rescue center in Yongshu reef of the Nansha Islands on January 29, aiming to enhance the protection of navigation and transport safety in the South China Sea.
 
2.Hong Kong authorities aim to fight air pollution coming from vessels with the help of flying drones that will monitor ship emissions. Newly designed sensors can detect pollutants from vessels up to 50 metres from source, with move set to be launched by end of 2019. 
 
3.In order to prevent harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens that get into ships' ballast water,China officially acceded the International Convention on the Control and Management of Ballast Water and Sediments on Ships, 2004 in 2018. Huatai has prepared a circular to introduce the main contents of the requirements.
 
4.China's iron ore futures closed sharply higher on Wednesday.The most active contract for May 2019 delivery finished the day session up 5.58% to 587 yuan per ton. 
 
5.The Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) recently released the evaluation results of “Outstanding Corporate Bond Issuers of 2018”, and COSCO SHIPPING was one of the winners.
 
6.According to new data released today by the NGO Shipbreaking Platform,744 large ocean-going commercial vessels were sold to the scrap yards in 2018.Of these vessels,518 were broken down on tidal mudflats in Bangladesh,India and Pakistan, amounting to a record-breaking 90,4% of the gross tonnage dismantled globally.
 
7.Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation,the tanker arm of state conglomerate China Cosco Shipping, has managed to eke out a small profit for 2018 due to strong recovery in tanker earnings towards year-end.Having posted net losses of CNY 268.3m ($38.5m) in the first nine months of last year, the Shanghai- and Hong Kong-listed company expected its net profits to have ranged between CNY 80m and CNY 180m in 2018.
 
8.Japanese natural gas utility and supplier Shizuoka Gas signed an LNG sale and purchase agreement with Clean Energy in China for the delivery of chilled fuel from the Shimizu LNG terminal in ISO containers.
