First offshore wind power project in east China completed

Construction works on the first offshore wind power project in east China's Zhejiang Province were completed on Monday after the last wind turbine was installed on Liuheng island.

The project has been ongoing for the past 27 months, costing a total investment of about 4.5 billion yuan (about 670 million U.S. dollars).

Despite the completion of the wind turbines, small works remain to be done before the project goes into operation.

"There are four remaining submarine cables to lay. The project is expected to finish and put into operation within a week," said Yin Jianfeng, the director of the project.

With a total of 63 units, the project has the largest single generation scale in China, among which 55 units have already been connected to the power grid. The remaining eight units will be connected by the end of March after the commissioning of the submarine cable.

Once fully put into operation, the wind farm power energy project is expected to be able to produce a total capacity of 252 megawatts, enough to power 250,000 households.

In addition, the project will help reduce the use of standard coal by 270,000 tons and emissions of carbon dioxide by 700,000 tons every year.
