China's 1st shale gas field output hits 20 bn cubic meters

China's largest shale gas field "Fuling" had produced a total of 20 billion cubic meters of shale gas as of Saturday.

The shale gas field was first discovered in 2012 and developed by China's leading oil refiner Sinopec in the southwest municipality of Chongqing. Its proven reserves is over 600 billion cubic meters. Now the gas field may produce 10 billion cubic meters every year.

As world's second largest shale gas field, it transmits clean energy to six provinces and two cities, benefiting thousands of companies. The shale gas fields' daily output may meet the demand of 32 million families.

Now the shale gas field provides a stable natural gas supply for central and east China and accelerates the commercialized progress of shale gas. It also helps China shift away from traditional energy sources such as coal in recent years.

It is estimated that three billion cubic meters of shale gas is equivalent to six million tons of coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 4.2 million tons.

China plans to produce 30 billion cubic meters of shale gas by 2020, and up to 80 billion to 100 billion cubic meters by 2030.
